Lucie Loves… Travel // A romantic break at Blakes Hotel, London .

We had such a wonderful stay at Blakes Hotel, London this weekend. From the moment we arrived in reception, our every sense tingled as they adjusted to the rather opulent surroundings.

I felt as if we’d just stepped onto the set of Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge or something equally turn-of-the-twentieth century. The subdued lighting and dark, opulent furnishings along with winding corridors scented in something that wouldn’t be out of place sold in Jo Malone, (think: pomegranate noir and grapefruit) were just the balm my frazzled post-festive season self needed to unwind.

There’s a lot to be said for escapism.

As the concierge took our bags and led us to our luxury suite I had no idea what would greet us on the other side of the large dark oak door to our room…

Once opened, our eyes adjusted slowly to the ambiently lit boudoir filled with that same heady, intoxicating Blakes signature aroma.

It. Was. Divine!

I felt as though I’d been whisked away from London life and reincarnated as a member of the French bourgeoisie.

The focal point of the room was the huge dark wood four poster bed, sumptuously draped in red fabrics and an abundance of scatter cushions in velvet, silk and satin.

There were crisp white orchids adorning both dining and dressing table and framed botanical illustrations of red flowers, (not unlike those found in the Marianne North Gallery at Kew Gardens) exhibited on the walls. Across the room, with yet more soft cushions scattered across it, sat a French Provincial style settee and a large armoir (complete with mini-bar) in which to unpack your things.

The ensuite bathroom was home to a massive monsoon shower and a delightful enamel roll-top bath, with Molton Brown toiletries and Blakes very own signature soap, fluffy white towels, bathrobes and slippers, this was certainly one hotel suite I could imagine NEVER leaving.

Once we were settled in they even brought up a glass of champagne (bugger the detox) and a glass of finest dark chocolate truffles. The staff were impeccably mannered and politely enquiring which room we were staying in and then “oohing and aaahing” that suite 9 (109) was one of their favourites!

I would recommend this little South Kensington/ Chelsea located boutique hotel to anyone wanting a devilishly decadent night in a hotel, a whirlwind romantic evening or just a touch of extravagant luxury.
