[Restaurant Review] Manchester date night at Erst, Ancoats

Let me introduce you to Erst, Manchester….

“Anni, amori e bicchieri di vino, nun se contano mai.” — “Years, lovers and glasses of wine; these things must not be counted.” ~ Anthony Capella, The Food of Love

Now this little Manchester gem on the corner of Murray Street has been on my “must eat” list ever since I moved back to the North West — and it did not disappoint!

Touted as a ‘Natural Wine Bar and seasonal small plates restaurant” — Erst’s modern yet industrial-style offers diners a reason to return again and again. With an ever-changing menu of mouth -watering, deliciously prepared dishes, cool AF vibes (perfect for a romantic date night), the lovely team make you feel warm and well hosted.

It’s stylish but laid-back, beautifully ambient and home to a veritable selection of very delicious natural wines — I kinda wish I hadn’t driven in and could try more of them! But the garnacha I did try was bloomin’ lovely!

What we ordered (they recommended 5-6 small plates between two people):

~ grilled flatbread, beef fat, Urfa chilli

~ beetroot, ajo blanco & green chilli

~ Parisian gnocchi, courgette & wild garlic

~ lamb belly skewer & date

~ onglet & borderlaise

Dessert (to share):

~ Panna cotta & prunes in monbazar

What we drank:

🍷 Wine: Azul y Garanza, Naturaleza Salvaje Garnacha 2021

Price-wise, it’s the upper end of your budget. Approx. £100 for 2 ppl — so a real treat, but worth every penny!

Do I recommend it? Hell yes! If you love trying new restaurants, and are happy to keep your mind, mouth & wallet open to new things, then Erst is for you! Note: booking is advised as this award-winning little gaff gets booked up pretty quickly! If you’re after a table, try early-mid week!
